Whiten Your Old Yellowish Pillows !

The sad reality of material things – they are not made to last. Just to serve a purpose, after which they get wasted and old, and it’s time to replace them.

However, sometimes you can use tips and tricks to restore your old things and make them as good as new. You get to learn something new and plus – you get to save some money!

As time passes, those white pillows, as well as mattresses turn yellow. Why? Simply because of sweat from our bodies and the natural oils that seep to them while we sleep. Then, there comes the dirt and dust and other nasty elements.

Well, it’s that time of the year where you are taking out the winter clothes and shoes, storing the summer ones, and the same goes for the linen. But, just before you throw those old pillows in the garbage, try this simple trick first.

You’ll need:

  • 1 cup of powder dishwasher detergent
  • 1 cup of bleach
  • 1 cup of powder laundry detergent
  • 1 cup of borax

Most feather down and synthetic pillows can be safely washed, so check your pillow before doing this.  Next, here are the simple steps of bleaching:

1. Soaking in hot water

Soak the dirty pillows in hot water. You can either do it in your washing machine if it has an option, or just do it in the bathtub. You’ll need the laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent and borax for this first step. Either put them inside a boiling cup of water, if you’re doing this manually, or, just put them in the washing machine.

2. Machine wash

Following the soak, run the pillows through a full wash cycle in your washing machine. Select the 2nd rinse option.

3. Dry your pillows

Either manually, or if you have a dryer – put them inside, but on low temperature.

As we said, this is an awesome and easy method to “revive” your old yellow pillows. However, you need to check if they’re washable. Like, for example, feather pillows are suitable, while most of the memory foam pillows are not, because the foam does not need too much soak and it can ruin her.
